Hihi, it's nice to see you again! It's Lilliana here and I'm proud to show you the second part to my first fanfic on this blog! First, I want to say sorry for leaving this story for too long. I got too carried away with my other posts that I almost forgot about Celestria Desdemona. But fear not because here I am with Chapter 2! I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 2: Speaking Statue
It’s been a few weeks since that time when I saw those odd-shaped blobs. I didn’t tell it to anyone else other than Lucas, who laughed at the story. I grumbled but he apologised, offering to piggy-back me to school instead. I agreed and the memory of the weird shadows was long forgotten.
Today was the day when our class will be having a touring trip at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mum was a bit hesitant at first because the museum was where a large crime happened around five years ago. The news said that there was a delinquent boy who crashed the museum but I reassured her that it was long ago.
“Nyx, an infamous Greek goddess of Greek mythology was said to hold the power of night”, Mr William continued.
The power of night? That’s interesting, Greek mythology really is such a vast subject, I thought.
“Nyx was known to have flawless beauty and exceptional power to the point where even the King of Gods, Zeus, himself feared her”.
Even Zeus?! Woah, Zeus is such a wonderful king, I thought he couldn’t be fazed by anything!
“According to mythology, Nyx lives in a cave or mansion at the edge of the cosmos. Before Apollo, it was Nyx who gave oracles. Nyx, with the accompaniment of Adrasteia moves the entire universe to the beat of Nyx’s chanting. She is also the mother of Erebus (Darkness), Aether (Brightness), Hemera (Day), Moros (Doom & Destiny) and many others. These include Death, Destruction, Pain, Dreams, Sleep, Fate, Deceit and Old Age”, Mr William recited.
That many? Nyx was able to birth that many powerful gods and goddesses?
“She sure was a busy goddess”, Avery commented.
“Imagine giving birth to that many children. I need to get more pictures for this week’s new headline: The corrupt gods of greek! Well, what do you guys think?”, Rachel asked, twiddling with her camera.
“They weren’t corrupt! If you lived for eternity, you’d probably be extremely bored too!”, I fought.
“Sure, giving birth to death and destruction for the good of mortals definitely sounds like a stellar idea to pass time”, Julia reasoned.
Hailey sniggered as the two pointed at the nude sculptures of the Greek gods and goddesses.
I sighed, staring up in awe at the majestic statue of Nyx. Imagine what it’s like to have such power?
Wonder no more, my beloved daughter
“What?”, my head whipped around the hall but it was empty.
“Who’s there?! Who spoke?!”, I demanded. I stared back up at the statue in fear, half expecting it to turn into a monster.
It glowed a dark violet around the edges, the colour radiating off the statue before drifting into nothingness. I stared in admiration at the beautiful cascade of colours.
You’ll find out more about me soon enough
The soft, melodic but menacing sound gave an ironic laugh before fading away with the colours that came with it.
Once the room was completely deprived of magic, I fell to my knees, grabbing my head in pain. Who was that?! What was that?!
“Celestria!”, a familiar voice resonated against the hallway.
“L-lucas”, I replied, my voice hoarse.
He slid onto the tiles next to me and held me in his arms, “Are you alright? The whole class is worried sick. What happened, you don’t look too well”, Lucas fussed over me.
“I-i’m fine. Where’s the rest of the class?”, I pushed.
“They’re at the cafeteria”
Oh thank the gods. No one was hurt. No one else saw it other than me.
“Are you sure you’re alright, Tria?”, Lucas helped me up.
“I’m alright. I just need some water”, I smiled weakly.
“I’ll get you some water! Just leave it up to me!”, Lucas saluted and ran off.
I happily sighed at his enthusiasm before facing the statue of Nyx, eye’s narrowing. Just what did she mean?
By the time the field trip was over, it was 6:00pm and the sun was setting quickly. Most of my friends took the school bus home but my dad offered to pick me up to stop by to get some churros for tonight’s movie.
“Imagine what it’s like to be a goddess!”, Hailey said, eagerly.
“Ooooh! I’d love to be super powerful!”, I replied, mirroring her bright tone.
“Wait . . . there’s more to it, isn’t there?”, Hailey said, raising a brow.
“. . . Powerful enough to stop climate change!”, I cheered sheepishly.
Hailey sighed, “There it is. God, why stop climate change if you can be the goddess of wine?!”.
“You aren’t even over the required age for drinking!”, I reasoned, half-laughing.
“It’s only one more year! Cocktails are such a bore”, Hailey ranted.
The two of us laughed, debating our choices in drinks before I felt a tap on my shoulder.
“Miss Desdemona? I’m sorry to interrupt you, but I have a phone call from your father”, one of my teacher’s explained.
“Thanks”, I said before taking the phone from him.
“Hello dad? It’s past 6:30. Did you switch to another craving instead of churros?”, I joked.
My dad’s voice was forced, unlike anything I’ve heard before, “Haha, look, Celestria”.
I stopped. My full name? My dad hardly ever uses my full name. What’s going on?
“I don’t think I can pick you up today. I called Hailey’s parents to bring you home for now. I’ll explain everything when you get home. I love you, okay? I’ll see you later”, my dad said, voice shaking.
My dad hung up. I held onto the phone tightly, My dad is always so bright and warm. I’ve only seen this side of him once and that was when . . .
“Hey, Tria? My ride’s here now, you coming?”, Hailey asked, her face furrowed in worry but not pushing it.
I gave a forced smile, “Yup! Let’s go home!”.
Conclusion & Claimer
Sorry if today's chapter wasn't very exciting, but I wanted today to be the calm before the storm. At this point, it's pretty undeniable that Celestria is the daughter of Nyx but I'm open to any other theories! You're only limited by your imagination! Much like I said last week, the character's in this chapter are all mine and are completely fictional!
I just wanted to say thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for reading this chapter! I've been really irresponsible with this story but I hope you've liked it either way! If you have any suggestions about the course of this story, I'd love to alter it to match the image you've made for Celestria!
-Lot's of Love,
Lilliana <3
