Percy Jackson Reaction - The Lightening Thief: Part 2

Updated: Nov 10, 2021

Welcome back to my blog, it's Lilliana again! I'll be continuing this series' reaction for two reasons: (1), because starting something and not finishing triggers me (despite my lack of organization) and (2) why not?! The Percy Jackson series is phenomenal! Let's start the next phase of "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief"!

Summary

We'll just pick up where we left off from my last Percy Post! When Percy, Grover and Sally Jackson are running up the hill to reach the rumoured legendary Camp Half Blood, Sally is attacked by the minotaur and dies! Devastated, Percy practically drags Grover to the safety of Camp Half-Blood's property line.

Once Percy reaches camp, he meets his old Latin teacher, which wasn't just an ordinary teacher. Chiron (pronounced "Kiron") is a son of Kronos and is also the immortal centaur and trainer of heroes!

Percy learns that his father is among one of the greatest of the Greek Gods and is currently living in Olympus, the heart of the Western Civilisation! Or to be more specific, Olympus is actually the 600th level of the Empire State building, visible only to Gods and their descendants.

At Camp Half-Blood, Percy learns more about his missing parent, Greek Gods frequently have children with mortals (humans with no significant power, basically, us), and the children birthed from that love are called "demi-gods". Which, yes, does include Hercules.

Percy also realises that the safest place for him to survive is in Camp Half-Blood, where there is a powerful barrier, suitable for housing demigods from Greek monsters who seek revenge!

Not only is it a safe house, but it's also a training ground where children of the gods can learn how to harness their parentage power (if they have any) and/or protect and defend themselves from the Greek monsters.

Because of an oath, The "Big Three" (this includes Zeus, god of the sky, Poseidon, god of the sea and Hades, god of the underworld) promised each other not to have children with mortals because the power that they hold may be too powerful for the world!

But obviously, Hades, the most responsible of the three, was the only one who kept the oath. Back at Camp Half-Blood, Percy meets Annabeth, daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom and war-planning and Luke, son of Hermes, god of travellers.

But, Percy can't be a male lead without an enemy, Clarisse, daughter of Ares, god of war, is practically seething with hate when she first meets Percy!

Percy doesn't know about his heritage or what power he has earned yet until a fateful moment when Poseidon, God of the Sea claims Percy as his son by conjuring a small, swirling trident above his head, the first of his siblings in three generations!

The rest of the campers actually bow and kow-tow to Percy!

Not long after his "claiming", Percy learns about the tea in Mount Olympus, Zeus's Master Bolt, a powerful weapon in which all other lightning bolts are modelled after has been stolen!

And, because of the lovely sibling relationship, Zeus accuses his brother, Poseidon, of staging the theft. Zeus has also come to the conclusion that Poseidon used Percy to steal the bolt in order to overthrow him as the King of Olympus.

My Reaction

Unsurprisingly, my love for Greek mythology has escalated quickly from that horrible era when I ignored this series!

I have been dying to meet Camp-Half Blood, my friends boasting about the place basically made me a Camp expert before even seeing it (and by seeing it, I mean reading about it). CHB was every bit as magical as I expected it to be!

The nymphs, satyrs and other mythological creatures reminded me a lot about the School for Good and Evil though, but the animals in CHB actually have a personality! In SGE, the creatures are just mentioned, but the beings in CHB are actually quite relatable (not Grover though, I don't think I'll ever like tin cans).

When Percy wakes up, he's gifted the honour of having a tour of the camp and if I though it was magical before, now it's legendary! There's chariot racing, a lava pit, stables, arena, lake and strawberries! What more could anyone ask for?!

To be honest, I wasn't that surprised to know that Chiron was actually some mythological legend, Uncle Ricky was really good at leaving hints.

From the second Percy mentioned the fact that Chiron brings in ancient Armor to school for his students to play around with, I knew he was no ordinary teacher.

First off, no teacher would ever let us that close to an ancient relic and the fact that Chiron has so many Greek collectables either makes him a collect-aholic or has something dark about him!

I basically zoned out while Percy was finding out that his Father is actually Poseidon, I was too busy fawning over Aphrodite, my Greek Mother! And I have to say, there is no one more powerful than Aphrodite, because Love is the most powerful existence in the world!

But my mind snapped back to PJO reality when I read that people bowed down to Percy! At that moment, I crowned Percy King!

Time skip to Annabeth Chase. While Percy was busy talking to her, I was already checking the wedding preparations! I mean, they were one of the most fluffy couples in the whole book! I'm a pro-Percabeth supporter!

Anyone who ships Perachel can face the wrath of my fangirl army! And, can I be the first to say, that Clarise isn't actually that bad, to be honest, her relationship with Chris Rodriguez was one of the main reasons why my love for her went up.

This just shows why even the cruellest of people need love! Courtesy of my Mother, Aphrodite! I was a bit disappointed to hear that Percy, Grover and Annabeth were about to depart, we just reached CHB and I haven't been properly acquainted with the strawberry's yet!

But Zeus just had to ruin the mood and let everyone suffer his electric anger. I hate how everyone dislikes Hades for being the worst god ever but he was the only one who kept his oath!

If I had to choose from the Big 3 to be my Father, I'd definitely choose Hades! Not only can I control diamonds, but dead souls too and have the amazing power to Shadow Travel (teleport) anywhere I want to go!

At this point, I only had a taste of PJO greatness but I was practically on my knee's, begging for my friend's forgiveness. Their wise foresight was able to introduce me to this glorious and fabled series!

If you enjoy my reactions and would like me to continue this series, please feel free to say so in the comment section! And, if you're a PJO fan like me, I'd love to know more about your Greek heritage!

Love,

Lilian
